Simply put David Bowie is a legend. Every decade, every individual has a reason to love this man. Whether it’s from his era defining music, epic fashion inspiration, or boundary pushing design, even the must-be-apathetic-about-everything-mainstream hipster kids can’t deny how much they loved the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth.
That’s why the Promoworx team are so excited for the reveal this weekend at the V&A museum. The V&A has been given unprecedented access to the David Bowie Archive to curate the first international retrospective of the extraordinary career of David Bowie – one of the most pioneering and influential performers of modern times. This once in a lifetime exhibit will explore the creative processes of Bowie as a musical innovator and cultural icon through the ages focusing on his shifting style and sustained reinvention of not only himself but design as we know it.
Exploring a broad range expect to see Bowie’s collaborations with artists and designers in the fields of fashion, sound, graphics, theatre, art and film. On display will be more than 300 objects including Ziggy Stardust bodysuits (1972) designed by Freddie Burretti, photography by Brian Duffy, album sleeve artwork by Guy Peellaert and Edward Bell, and more. Alongside these will be more personal items such as never-before-seen storyboards as well as some of Bowie’s own sketches and diary entries revealing the evolution of his creative ideas.
David Bowie continues to influence the world, in every aspect of design possible. From the beginning, not only does he reinvent himself, he inspires artists of all backgrounds to push their own envelopes and not just step outside the box, but jump. For the past 5 decades he has affected the looks of fashion, the sounds of music, and the platforms behind graphic design. We look forward to the next decade of creativity from ‘the man you styled the world’.
